How is HPV in the mouth treated?

 



HPV in the mouth is similar to other locations but with more limited treatment options - surgical removal, cryotherapy, interferon alpha. Oral warts cannot be treated with some of the more popular topical remedies like Podophyllin or Aldara.

Remember, there are many “normal” bumps in the oral cavity, but paranoia can really take a toll on you if you don’t know what you’re looking at. I had a wart on my uvula (the punching bag like thing that hands in the back of your throat. The doctor snipped it off with a special tool. Very uncomfortable procedure given the location of the wart, but it was over in a second. The healing was painful and I needed a strong numbing gargle to get through it.
