Question:
I have read from at least one doctor that after the warts are gone, if you do not show symptoms for a year then you can assume that you are immune and no longer contagious. Any truth to that?
|
That''s what my doctor told me. You never really know if or when HPV is dormit in your body because most of the time the warts cannot be seen. So it's really hard to tell when a person is not contagious and when they are.

No-one knows for sure when you are infectious, but this seems to be conventional wisdom.
Some women develop immunity, not men. Again no-one knows precisely why.
Men and women without the imunity have a dormant virus that can reactivate at any time.

No the virus may still lay dormant an it may never become noticeable but it is still there and procotions should be taken such as condoms and spermacide.

This may be the case for some, but I seriously doubt it is for everyone. I contracted hpv when I was a teen and had several pop up on my penis all at the same time. After treatment a few more popped not long after and I had to be treated again. Now I am 35 and have 2 outbreaks since then. The outbreaks seemed to have been 6-8yrs apart. I have gone over 2yrs without any symptoms several times, only to have them pop up again years later.

you shouldn''t assume anything unless your doctor says no there is no way in hell you can give it to someone even then you should use condoms
