Question:

I''ve heard so many things now, which is it, can it be weeks to months, or years of being infected before symptoms show up? One doctor said it had to be more than 3 months, the other said it could be a partner of less than a month, then I read it could be years? Help?

Well, it depends on many things...the person''s immune system, the type of virus, etc. My own personal experience, they appeared nearly a month afterwards, and grew rapidly.

My guy and I are in a monogamous relationship. He was my first but but he had sex in past relationships. I was with my guy for 3 years before I got symptoms of anything and he didn''t develop symptoms until after I did. I've also heard that the virus can remain dormant for a long time, up to years, and I think that's what happened in my case

I was told when I was FIRST diagnosed that my OB had a 80 year old women with a clean Pap record her entire life popped up with an HPV at the age of 82. She insisted to my OB that she hadnt had sex sinse she was in her early 60''s when her Husband of 45 years passed on.. Crazy huh. I dont think there is a complete answer for this question. It just depends on you, your partners, and you immunity.

if you have had multiple partners, there is no way to tell who you got it from or when.

yeah doctors do say different things! its hard to say, it could be anything from as little as a month to even years. the virus could be laying dormant before an outbreak develops.

I don''t know if this helps any. I lost my virginity, we only had sex once and within two weeks I began to notice two tiny bumps at the opening of my vagina. I was diagnosed with HPV.
