Question:

I was diagnosed with HPV a yr and a half ago. I have not had any oubreaks and all of my paps have come out normal. My doc says that there is a 2 yr reoccurent time frame. He claims that if I do not have any outbreaks within 2 years than I will not have an outbreak again. Is this true?

I have had HPV for over 15 years and only had an outbreak once in the very beginning. The longer that you go without an outbreak, you may never have one again. There may be other side effects for women, lesions, abnormal paps that require surgery or freezing.

Yes, even if you had recurrences, your body is able to clear HPV naturally. And to all of you people who say it''s an incurable STD, get your facts straight from the CDC. 90% of infections will be gone in less than 2 years.

It is possible. The problem with HPV is that one hears so many different situations. For example, I read one article from a doctor stating that a patient was dormant for 5 years and had another outbreak (not reinfected). On the other hand some recent studies show that if you havent had symptoms for a few years that it is very possible that your immune system has taken care of the HPV (as it does with a common cold). There are no definate answers. All I can say is, get tested for the HPV virus a few times. If all the tests come up clear/negative than chances are you are cured. For more information on the latest HPV findings visit: http://health.rutgers.edu/discussions/sex/sti/

From that site I quote: "HPV is extremely common. The good news is that in the vast majority of people it goes away by itself, often without the person ever knowing they were infected. Thus, the odds are that a year from now your boyfriend will no longer have genital warts."

Not true. I got HPV 7 years ago and had another outbreak last month. How can any doctor make that kind of prediction? Some people have recurrent outbreaks, some people don''t.

Try to remain as stress free as possible, exercise, eat well, avoid smoking, excessive use of alcohol and take vitamins. Besides a good multi-vitamin, I have read that Lyseine is good for your skin & immune system, as well as Vit. E, Zinc, Vit. B Complex and Vit. C. Nothing is a guarantee, but it definitely helps to keep your body healthy and strong.

I would hope the Doctor is telling you the truth, because I have been diagnosed with HPV Seven months now technically and I have never had a outbreak. And my doctor aslo told me that I might never have an outbreak and it will go away on it''s own within a year. So in six moths to make sure it's gone i have to take a Pap Smear. Hoped I helped a little bit :)

Ask your doctor to do a specific HPV test. It you have not had an outbreak in 2 years, your body has probably fought off the virus. This is not to say that you cannot contract the virus again! There are thousands of different strains of HPV out there. Use condoms! Because the percentage of sexuality active people with HPV is so high, it is very likely to be exposed to it again.

I do not want to pretend to know the answer to that question. I suggest that you pose that question to the doctor. But I have had a similar situation in which I had vaginal warts. I ony had one reoocurance shortly after. Years have passed. I have never had an outbreak or an abnormal pap. I am going to ask my doctor if its possible for the virus to go into remission. I have heard that you can have a particular strain of the virus that doesn''t do much and does nott cause cancer. I hope this is the case.

Best Wishes

I''ve heard people say that if you don't experience an outbreak for 2 years that the virus may be in remission.

You'll find different opinions across the internet on this.. some say you can always pass the virus, some say the virus is always there, and some say that the virus after goes into remission and isn't contagious.

Not having an outbreak is great! Keep up whatever you're doing and you'll be just fine.
