Question:

I was just told by my Doctor that I have HPV. I had a colpscopy and he took no biopsy. He said everthing looked fine and to come back in 6 months for a re-pap. I have no warts. He did not give me a HPV test. How can he be so sure that HPV is what I have? Has anyone had this experience? Thanks?

I had a colpscopy done and it showed small lesions on my cervix. Once these showed up the doctor said it was not necesary to do a pap smear unless I wanted to be tested for other STD''s. During the exam the doctor used two substances, acetic acid and some brown liquid which made the lesions more noticiable. She automatically said it was HPV and is going to do a biopsy to see what strand or type it may be. A biopsy is a beter way to be tested than a pap smear.

Pap smear can test for HPV. If you didnt have a pap smear and he said you have HPV then its because he saw genital warts.

If an abormal pap shows HPV, or other indicaitons, then the coloscopy is used to confim it.

I have one comingup myself, and I''m anxious to get the details on the kind I have, etc...Your doc now needs to monitor you via a pap frequently, hence every six months, to make sure you don't have the kind that devellops into cervical cancer.

Did you ask your doc if he/she knew what kind you have, and if it is of the high-ridk variety?

By the way, HPV is not tested through the Genital Warts.
