Question:
IS it possible to develop sebaceous prominence or penile pAPULES spontaneously? Or is it somehing you have or dont have? If so, what produces them?

Hey listen, I recently turned 19 years old. I noticed the development of my Penile Papules at around twelve. I got scared because this was around the time i first masturbated and i thought i might have given myself a bacterial infection. I went to the doctor and and was diagnosed with pearly papules. I had never had sex before and my father does not have them so it is more like a mole than anything. They form spontaneously and stay for life. they are only around the rim of the head of my penis. They WILL NOT go away no matter what so dont try anything, please, learn from my mistake, it was not pleasant. What i have done is, after first giving up on removal, I now carry around a piece of paper in my wallet next to my condom that is printed off the net, it has all the stats on this Genital Warts and a picture of a similar infection, i show this to women when they get curious or spooked, it doesn''t always work in the situation cuz it is a mood killer but it gets you out of the weird stage were everyone thinks you are sick and contagious. I also explained to everyone i know and care about exactly what i had at different times when it was comfortable. My Friends provide a lot of back up at parties and such and sometimes women even want to see them bad enough to hit on me, it isn't so bad living with them, but i had to man up and stop hiding them from everyone, that just leads to selibicy and performance anxiety during sex, due to the scare of her seeing them.........

I have had sebaceous prominence since I was about 13 years old. Like most of us, it was something that I was embarrased about and kept hidden from everyone. It has caused me great anxiety for as long as I can remember. As a result, I have feared allowing relationships to foster with women I actually want to be with (My sexual experience has been limited to a handfull of one-nite stands "in-the-dark").
Last night I learned about sebaceous prominence for the first time (due to my fear on peoples reaction to it, I had never enquired as to what my condition was). I had to look it up again tonight to confirm that it wasn''t a dream. What a releif and what a HUGE weight off my back. It does go to show you that ones perception of something personal is always "much" worse then reality. If I had actually gone to see a doctor years ago, this could have all been cleared up then. Oh well, I'll learn for next time.
In my life, I always do my best to look on the brighter side of things. Sure, our condition may not be the most attractive thing to look at (I still wish I had one of those shiny smooth rods like in porn movies), but it sure does give the ladies what they really want... Next time you're in the supermarket with your girlfriend looking for condoms and she says to you "lets get the ribbed ones", look her in the eyes, smile and say "It's already ribbed, baby!"
It may not be easy to do at first but guys, be proud of it by all accounts, its not going anywhere so we might as well accept it.

I guess this is more common than we thought! I know guys who asked their doctor about this and the doctor just said "I have no idea what it is".
Keeping the penis and groin area clean and dry helps minimize the bumps, although they don''t seem to go away entirely they definitely are less noticeable. I always use an antibacterial soap, use a hair dryer to dry the pubic area (crotch!) after a shower, and use a medicated powder to help absorb oils and perspiration. Of course you may not want to go overboard with powder if you're going on a date! Your date might think you're a freak! :)
Shower right after sex if you can, and always shower or wash your genitals after you masturbate particularly if you're using heavy creams or lotions for lubrication. Masturbation is healthy and normal but going to sleep with sweat and grease on your tool is not a good for it and can make those bumps get nasty!
If you have an significant odor in your groin area, it's probably related to inadequate hygeine...but if you have discharge, irritation, etc. be sure to go to the doctor. Make sure if you're uncut that you're cleaning under and around your foreskin, and cleaning all the groin area adequately! I've also used powder based sprays for jock itch such as Cruex (on groin, but can irritate the penis and testicles if used too much directly) to keep the bacteria down which cause some odor, especially helpful if you live in a warm climate or perspire a lot.
The main thing is keep your crotch clean, dry, and powdered to minimize these little buggers!

Im 16 years old ive had these lil bumps on my Genital Warts since I could remember. I aint an ugly nerd and i can easily girls but the thing is i am shy to show them my dick. I was so releaved after i found out they are a normal thing. I was too shy to see a doctor or tell anybody about it so i just searched the net untill i found the answer. Dont do what i did! i just found out today what this spots was, and I have had them since i was like 10-13 years now im soon 17.. mine are not so big and visible thank god for that.. and im VERY glad that its not herpes and i can infect others with this.. but still i wish i didnt have it, its so unfair :( im from norway and i havent talked to ANYONE. no-one knows that i have it except for me.. and i wont tell before someone notice.. i feel with you guys!

GOD IM SO HAPPY!, Ever since I was 10 i began to get these little bumps like in the picture. Im 16 now. I was afraid of my future because i thought i had some sort of crazy skin disorder that would make it so i couldnt get married. So i wait for 3 years stressed out, and finally go to the doctor about them, but am so exbarressed i said there was something wrong with my throat. This year i went and showed the doctor my balls/Genital Warts (being blunt). And he said they a folicles, nothing to worry about. But he barely looked at them. So i was still stressed for about another year, but now i just found this site searching the web (and saw the pic''s). THATS EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE!. Iám Saved! Hey guys. Health Professional here from the U.K. I have sebaceous prominence and yip! What you hear is true they do suck! Also true = 1) Don''t let them rule your life this web site alone shows you're not the only one out there! Maybe next time you're at the urinal it wouldn't be such a crime to have a peek! We've all got them! )2) Stay clear of the the toenail-clipper/listerine guy that's just all wrong! 3) toothpaste? well I can see how it may work for some but try some "magnesium sulphate drawing ointment" instead usually used for boils e.t.c but won't burn and is likely the drawing/drying action is why the toothpaste works. The ammount of antibacterials in some toothpastes (although higher than some acne washes) aren't gonna help with this. It's an over active sebaceous gland that produces too much oil/"sebum" and so gets blocked more. 4) Re: the guy who has small hairs from the centre of them. Personally I have this too and do find that removing them helps. The hairs are more likely to be inverted/pailer with weaker "roots". Gently pull with a tweezer but make sure you're washing properly afterwards with a strong antiseptic. 5)Apart fromt that it's herbal stuff or surgey i'm afraid and like the other chap said risks may outweigh benefits.

I''m 24 years old and starting getting the papules somewhere around puberty. I have had them as long as I can remember. They can not be passed to a girlfriend, so be sure she is aware of that. And mine never cause any sort of smell that other people talk about. Just keep clean and you won't have a problem. Good luck! -J

Wow!! Here I am at the age of 30, good looking guy with a good career and a great life except the little bumps on the penis that have made me freak out since childhood! So embarassing and just not something you want to share with anyone! I''ve let so many good women go because I thought I might have had some sort of std and it turns out to be Sebaceous Prominence and totally normal.. Wow! I am so relieved to have found the picture of Sebaceous prominence and finally have some closure on what it is that I have in common with so many other folks. Spontaneous? I might agree with that. It hit me at the age of 7 or so. Since then I've blossomed, had many offers to have good relationships but have declined so many times and it puts a small damper on life being a man who has well, Had a fear of a sex life! hey people guess wut!! I think i found a cure for this, or an alternative. well ive been using this for 3 days and its made them smaller and the ones on the back of the head or gone except for one. though the skin is a little dry its working!! the product is actually an acne treatment for the face and one day i decided to try it and it worked. its a cleanser and another liquid you ise both of them, i also used baby powder to keep it dry since its somehting i read somewhere. they are called BIOELEMENTS spotless cleaner (salicyclic acid treatment) and the gooier liquid is BIOELEMENTS acneplex day time treatment gel, use the cleanser twice a day after showers in the mornign and at night and the liquid once a day in the morning.

well at long last I have found out what these (pearly penile papules)Genital Wartsy things are and i am 31. can you imagine my anxiety all this time i once went to the clinic about it but i got their and she told me to come back in 3 hours, guess what i never went back i bottled it i was 19 then and god do i now wish i went back. yep ive seen the pictures and read about it tonight (mind you i have lots more around my bell end rim than in the pictures. I also first noticed them when i was about 10 and from what i can remember they caused a bit of pain at first or mabey i just wasnt as hygeinic as i am now. Oh what a relief and what a weight of my mind. i first noticed these 2 litl white lookin pimples on the front of my crown shaft. Usually appears during puberty. DO NOT BE SHY, go see a doctor...get it checked out...you should not be ashamed to go to yoru doctor..it HAS TO BE CONFIDENTIAL. You do not want to end up sterile later in life, make sure its not and STD/STI

Damn, finaly real answers from the victims of this desease. I am 16 and ive been worried about this little infection for over 2years. I was worried of being rejected by a girl or the girl might just freak out. After finding out what it was i feal hella alot better now. Im still going to da doctor to see if theres some cream or surgery cause the look ugly... When i was younger i tried squizin them and sometimes puss came out of it. One time i made a huge lump, which didnt go away so what i did was cut it off :/ . Now that i read this i cannot believe what i went threw for nothing. I might take da guys advice from the top and carry around some papers on it hehehe.. so the chicks dont get scared of...

wow, I finally found the answer, thanks to this site! i''m in the EXACT situation you all are in. I'm 17 and I've had the sebaceous prominence bumps since probably the age of 12. It's going to suck trying to explain that it's not an STD. I wish there was a way to make them disappear. There must be a way. But for now, I'll take the advice of washing more frequently to minimize the appearance. Maybe I'll print off a web page too and put it in my wallet.

what about carbon dioxide laser resurfacing, or some of the other surgerys? I have rad that they are Very succesful at eliminating them, worst case scenario also getting circumised at the same time will do it. Somebody was looking for cures "short of laser surgery"......why? I have already has laser surgery done on my nose because of a Genital Warts vessel that had surfaced, it hurts a little, but they don''t even need to knock you out or anything, I'm 20 and very attractive/well hung and have had sex with 5 or so girls, but it just a matter of lighting and waht not, too much of a pain in the ass for me, my problem is working up the courage to go see a dermatologist or urologist about them, the surgery I could handle, any inspiration for doing this would be apprecitaed, also should I see a urologist, and what have you heard about laser srugery or any other form for getting rid of these once and for all, not this baby poweder/acne crap!

i had this thing for as long as I can remember. i was scared to go to the doctors. but i had to take a physical for my schools basketball team. and my docotor saw this Genital Warts. we started to talk and he its from jackin off and from the sweat that i get from playin basketball. he said to stand in fron of a fan for 20 min a day. it will help it go away. and if i stop jackin off.

I don''t know if I have Sebaceous prominence or Genital Warts. I noticed they started to develop in January 2002 when I was 12 and they seem to be developing more. I am so ashamed to have these because I want to go to the doctor to get a sports physical, but then they will endup checking my penis and if I do have the HPV, I don't know how I could explain it to my parents. I'm not 100% sure it's Sebaceous prominence, but then again they don't look like Genital Warts either. Someone please help me my AIM name is Jeffisthemastur. I've felt very uncomfortable talking to people about this because it's very stressful for me. Hi Guys, add another member to ur club. I had one of these things after I strated using vaseline on my penis. I thought it was a blister so I left it alone for a year then I thought it was caused by friction, so I started using vaseline again, then it got worse and worse when ever I used the vaseline. I tried other skin creams and they also didn''t help if not make it worse. I think vaseline and some other skin creams have something to do with this. Has anyone else used any skin creams for this?

You know whatsucks...because of these little corn rows of pimples I got so scared I got tested twice in a 3 year span the said nothing was wrong with me but never gave me an explanation on the bumps...they said it might be ''razor bumps' from shaveing...so 2 seperate times they stuck a mother f*cken q-tip in the hole of me Genital Warts to get a culture or whatever it's called....THAT HURTS BADDDD!!!! just to find out now that it's Sebaceous Prominence. I have had similar bumps for as long as I can remember. They were definitely a stress for the majority of my puberty and probably contributed to my inability to get close to girls for some time. However, I''m 24 now and I've had 3 long term girl friends over the years. None of them have had anything close to a problem with them. Rest assured guys, if you can find a cool and accepting girl, you'll have absolutely no concerns at all.

Well ive had these thins since I was about 13 and have always been shy about them. Ive never gone to see the docter about them but they couldnt be a STD because I had them before I had sex. Now I''m 17 and ive had sex a couple of times (never a long term) so i just slipped on the condom and got on with it. Now its goin to have to be to cleap my under-region very clean and dry and try the acne stuff like previous ones have mentioned. We all know what you're all going through so dnt worry. GOOD LUCK

I work at a dermatologist office and describe it to the doctor, he has no clue what it is without looking at it... not gonna do that. Ya, that Genital Warts does scare you. I have these white bumps on the forskin all down the bottom of my shaft and at the base. When I first discovered them I was way scared, and when I asked a doctor about them they didnt tell me shit. like all these stories. anyways im 16 now, and a friend or two of mine kind of had them, but i seemed to have them worse. But once i found out they were harmless, not cancerous or std i was way relieved, again like all of the people above. I read that anywhere from 20-40 percent of uncircumsised guys have them. So i dont worry about it much, although now that ive seen this sight im gunna make an extra effort to keep that shit down there clean, like my face and see if that makes a difference. We all here are a brotherhood. I appreciate this so much, hearing others talk about it. word, peace, and happy confident sex life.

Wow so many people here have it.. Just want to say thanks all, it is good to know that I am not alone. i have Sebaceous Prominence, but unfortunitly I am unlucky in that I have alot of it, not just a couple of not-so-noticeable spot things, it is very noticeable :(
It is good to know it is not an STD.. but at the same time it really doesn''t change much for me, I have low self esteem, and am always afraid of how women may react when they see it (you have no idea how many times I have had to turn down sex in fear of her getting freaked out by it).

You know I seen this little bumps on my Genital Warts when i was about 12 and i never knew what it was and it seemed like they just went away. But about 5 mos ago i noticed them even more. As long as i''ve been having sex i never once had someone say anything about it untill last month and i was to embarass to answer all i said was its been like that since i was a kid. Now i know know what it is. It really takes a load off my brain to know that its not anything serious but at the same time i dont want these things on me. I''m 17. I've had to the problem since I was about 13 (first signs of puberty). I've spoken with my uncle about it, and he had/has the same problem. He still does, but not as servere. These are the following reasons he said why they grow.
1. Sweat - some males produce more sweat than others in that region.
2. Smell - if you were briefs, WEAR BOXERS!. briefs hold your Genital Warts together. let em' be free, dont let your momma buy ur undies :P.
3. Dirt - man, we are males, every single one of us masterbate, some more frequently than others. but make sure it's clean down there and ur hands are clean. these are sweat glands, they expand with heat and absorb, if infected, they close and dont reopen.
I've applied creams, seen a doctor, heard that "ITS NORMAL" bullshit. With good hygenie, I've found a major decrease in these little bumps. Usually after every shower I apply some babypowder, keeps it fresh, odur-less, and what chick doesn't dig a lil scent of babyness =P
I've tried shaving them off, doesn't feel too good. I've tried popping them, nothing comes out. If you shave your pubic hairs, try letting them grow. Than apply a good warm wax and pull the hair out. This way the hair follicles are completely hairless, and you have a week to do your stuff.
You can try the WARMWATER + LEMON and/or SALT. Lemon has enough acid to hopefully disinfect the glands as the warmwater opens em up.
THERE IS NO CURE! BESIDES SURGERY..
Ive found that if I take those extra steps on hygenie, they decrease in size and blend in with the rest of the skin.

I finally gathered the courage to go to see the doctor recently and show him my somewhat revolting penis head littered with these little nasty buggers after years of physiological torment. The doc prescribed a white cream (Fusidic Acid/HC Acetate) reassuring me it would be gone in a few days.
The cream did nothing and he sent me to a dermatologist. Finally after a quick inspection the dermatologist congratulated me on not having genital warts, instead pearly penile papules. He persisted on saying it was perfectly natural, 30% of males exhibit this, that it was not a disease and because it was not a disease it was incurable. My jaw literally ped when he said the last part and I continued to ask him how to get rid of them.
How could something that has caused a tall, healthy, handsome 25 year old man who has had women/girls showing great interest in him to remain a virgin? If PPP is so normal, why is it continually confused with genital warts. I am at a loss for words to think that this "condition" is incurable. No I am not going to die and no it is not the end of the world. But I am simply not settling with the thought that my manhood will ressemble a toad for the rest of my life and having to explain my condition to every woman I encounter sexually. Give me a break. Hi guys. I have a different perspective and my heart really goes out to you all. I contracted genital warts in college.First sexual encounter. Met a great guy later and did some heavy duty fooling around that stopped short of actual penetration but there was definite genital to genital contact. I have some great news for those of you who have papules and want to get rid of them! Everyone keeps saying that their is no cure for them and they are probably right, but you can get them taken off by a dermatolagist. They zap or burn them off. It doesn''t hurt at all because they num it and then they only take off a very thin layer. They do half on one treatment and then the other half when it heals. It is a little bit embarrasing but not as much as being with a woman with the lights on. Another good news is that it is not very expesive. If one dermatalogist won't do it for you keep looking. You will be satisfied with the results.

I had the same experience as many of you of going to the doctor and being told that I had a normal skin condition, but that just made me question his ability as a doctor. I am a GIRL who has sebaceous Prominence. I have worried in the past if it was some kind of std even though I had it long before I was ever sexually active. It appeared around puberty and does not give me any trouble, it just doesnt look all that appealing if you know what I mean, but then again its only visable when my labia minora is stretched out. its a bit late for me now I think. ive had these little Genital Wartsheads for what must be 6 or 7 years, since the age of 11. just found out now what they really were and im experiencing relief and regret. when i first found the buggers and thought i had an std i became very reclusive and kept to myself, especially away from girls. i spent so many nights just thinking of how i couldnt have a normal life. thoughts like this made me bitter and a bit of a loner, i didnt want anyhting to do with emotions or feelings whatsoever. the word around my school was that i was gay, despite constantally saying i wasnt i couldnt tell anyone why i stayed away from girls.

OK - here''s my story. I have been sick with worry and borderline depression over these PPPs for about 16 years now.
That's a long time.
But they're normal? Jeezus Christ. I wish I'd had the internet 16 years ago.
I'm 27 now and my outbreak occured during a molluscum infection caught (with many other kids) from the local swimming pool. I thought that these PPPs that appeared were some kind of related infection - turns out it was just a coincidence! I am happy and relieved but also a little upset that I didn't look up this condition earlier.
I too have been pushing away girls for what seems like forever. Many of them have been more than a little confused at why my mood changes when things get intimate. Well maybe I don't have to do that anymore! Unfortunately, as I have made a habit of being aloof and sexually reserved around girls it will be hard to break the cycle!

Hey guys. I''m a 19yo male who has sebaceous prominences (SP) and pearly penile papules (PPP) since early teen years. I know how hard it is for all suffers because i have been through exactly the same. I strongly urge everyone to consult a doctor.
SP are harmless white lumps on the shaft of the penis caused by excess oil in the sebaceous glands. They are harmless and can't be transmitted. PPP are generally found on the rim of the head of the penis. The are generally uniformily arranged. These too are harmless.
I have been trying some home remedies and over the counter products to help remove them. Acne creams for the SP seem to help lessen them. I have also heard that toothpaste helps for PPP.
If anyone knows any over the counter products that help, please post the details. And to all suffers, hang in there fellas. It's not the end of the world. In fact SP and PPP can provide extra stimulation for women during intercourse!! Don't put your life on hold just because of a few small bumps.

Heres a sad story... I first noticed the bumps on my schlong when i was about 13. I freaked out and went to my doctor (with my mum!,cringe) he said it might be something to do with the sebaceous glands but was "normal". Normal but ugly. i have been to dermo`s as well and was finally prescribed retin-A cream. All this did was make my penis smell revolting, im 28 now and the smell still lingers slightly in my genital area. After years of explaining to women that it wasnt warts i had, I contracted HPV and had an attack of warts.Now I have both... Unlucky. I have had treatment with wartec and have no recurrence since (touch wood) I hope my system clears it fast because im having to reject too many women and cant remain celibate for long. I developed both at the age of 11 and went around with the worry of not knowing what they were up until the age of 16 when I plucked up the courage to see my doctor - only to be told that they were completely normal and very common! My doctor even said that he developed them around about my age too! I''m now 21 and still have them (they never go away), although I don't worry about them anymore and they don't affect my sex life at all. Those doctors words were the only thing that put my mind at rest and let me get on with my life. i am 18 and have had both for as long as I can remember. Its allways jus been normal for me, but since ive been getting worried about them ive got more paranoid. Galls will probably just think the worst and assume its some STD. Just have to explain thats its a normal thing that alot of guys have, but to what extent is the major factor.

From a female point of view.Most men have these.I have seen two with out them and it isnt that big of a thing.Most women think they are supposed to be there cause it is just that common.If your girl doesnt like them,to bad for her.If she wants to see you jump just have her rub her teeth,or tounge ring, ever so lightly aginst them.If your reaction doesnt turn her on then you need a more sensitive sexual partner.Please note,I have only seen them on the head,but then I wasnt looking for them either.I hope this makes you feel better.I was just curious as to what they were and here I landed.Good luck

hey im a 15 year old male, iv never actually been to a docter about it but seeing pics and info on it iv come to beleive I also have Sebaceous Prominence ( those annoying litle zits)and i thought they were warts up till today. i have had them before i was sexually active. so they cant of been sexualy transmited! i have been told by many difrent sources on the internet that its nothing to worry about and nearly every man has it. i think if people are embarresed about it dont be there nothing! just the result of oily skin. hang in there dudes and dont lose anymore sleep over it or let them prevent you from sex! good luck!

im 14 and im hoping ive got what this is as ive never had sex but these bastards apear all over my Genital Warts. it made me depressed at times and it started about 2 years ago. I havent been to the doctor but i think i should. As many other people in this forum i genuinly thought i was a vrigin with genital warts! I highly doubt that these papules come out of nowhere and I think most guys (from what I''''ve read), have noticed them either before, during or slightly after puberty (ages 11-19). Apparently no doctors know what causes them to develop which makes sense considering there are things like cancer, AIDS, and many other health problems that they are concerned about. Although this is unlucky for us PPP guys, we have to accept them and for god''s sake be extremeley grateful that we are heatlhy and that this is one of the only complications we have. I''ve had these little basterds since age 14 (I''m 19 now) and although they have held me back from getting head sometimes, I always pretend like I don''t even have them and always have great sex with girls.
