Usually men just show signs of warts. Most likely a man with HPV will show no symptoms or signs of warts. The virus can become dormit in a male as well as a female. HPV is like the chicken pox. Once you've had the outbreak, your body supresses the virus and the symptoms go away. Usually the symptoms never return. You still have the chicken pox virus in yoru DNA but it's just hidding. If your partner has HPV as well you will not keep passing the virus back and forth to each other. Once you have the virus you have it and it doesn't increase. If you would happen to sleep with a person with different strains of HPV then you can get new HPV strains.

Most affected people have subclinical HPV infections, meaning they display no visible symptoms.

The virus can and does become dormant in most cases.

There are 60 strains of HPV, there is a great debate on this topic of what the effect is of being re-exposed to the same virus.

One school of though is that once your body has learned to deal with this virus, subsequent exposure to the same strain is not a factor. While another would say that the more you are exposed the greater your risk of developing symptoms of other complications.

Many couples find with STDs in general that they "sync" up and experience outbreaks together.
