Last year in May I went for my annual exam and my pap smear came back abnormal. I didn't know until August that it was because of the HPV virus. I had to have surgery because they also found abnormal cells on my cervix. The doctor said there is no way that they knew how long it was in my system and I didn't know who had given it to me. I've been with my current boyfriend all through last year and he's been tested and they said there was no sign of the virus in him. I dont know what to think because before him I was with three other guys unprotected sometimes and they were also having sex with other people. My boyfriend also had three other people before me, he was protected, but the girls were having sex with other people too. So I don't know who gave me this virus and if any of the other people know that there's a chance they might have it too. When I read about the other people that have asked questions and sent personal messages to this website, I was surprised at how many people are living with this virus. And what makes it worse is that you can get HPV with or without a condom. People need to start to realize what kind of people they are messing with because the more partners you have, the higher the risk is for this virus.

very confused
i just found out that i have HPV and it is on my cervix too, they stained my cervix with iodine and there it was one part that didnt stain, and that sucked, i dont have the warts though and i dont also know who gave it to me either, i have been with my partner for a year and 8 months and we have only been with each other in that time, i was with this other guy before i was with my love that i am with now and he cheated on me quite a few times

so i dont know if he gave it to me or the guy that i have been with for almost 2 years gave it to me, and i dont know it the kind that i have is lifelong because my doctor said that he would go in 6 weeks after i have my baby and shave it off my cervix and then my cervix would grow back in a month so i dont know what the hell to think, what did your doctor say?

Response to veryconfused: My doctor didn't tell me everything that I know now about HPV and taking care of myself so the virus won't be so bad. Every doctor is different, I have a new one now. I hope you and your baby will be ok. Both of us have to realize that we'll never know who gave this to us, as long as we have someone who loves us for who we are thats all that matters. I was depressed in the beginning, but later on I started to get over it.

TO veryconfused: When I went back for my check up pap smear, the doctor said that it came back abnormal again. And I was pissed, I felt like the surgery was no use. But then I learned that as long as I have the virus, the pap smears will stay abnormal. But again I found this out from research not my old doctor.
