Feel like this is controlling me...

I'm a 26 year old male that just got formally diagnosed with HPV a few days ago. I am fairly informed about it and I'm not worried about it killing me or anything like that. But I can not sleep, eat, concentrate now on anything because I feel I will never be able to have another intimate relationship again. I would like to get married someday of course....but who would want to marry someone with HPV?? How do you break that to someone?? Right now I can't even look at the opposite sex without feeling horrible about myself. How can I go on like this?? My only saving grace is that my bodies strong immune system along with Aldara treatment will stop the reoccurences and wipe out the virus. Seems this virus isn't even completely understood by the doctors yet either. Stressing over this one thing is ruining my life...I always have this dark deep horrible secret I feel. I have not told anyone yet, not best friends family or anything...I don't know I can or even if I need to. I'm so confused on the social side of things I can't ever imagine my life being right again. I know this isn't cancer or a fatal disease but I feel almost equally as horrible. Emotionally and mentally lost....

I can relate. People deal with this
and we will too. Hang in there there
are lots of us.

I know you feel, I was there too. But
ya know what? Its really not that bad
and it could be so much worse! I know
its hard to think about and hard to
understand.. all you think is "Ew I
have this, and no one will ever want me
again" but in all truth - its not true.
Why wouldn't someone want to be with
you? Take people who have cold sores on
their lips they really have herps on
their lips - do you think any different
of them? Nope. You will feel better - I
promise

I know how you feel also. When I first
found out I felt like the most
disgusting person in the world. I agree
with Shay, it could be worse. Herpes
hurt a hell lot more. You know when you
have a breakout from herpes, but not
from HPV. Eventually, you'll forget all
about having this horrible virus. I
have but I still think about it from
time to time. Things can only get
better and there is someone out there
for you. Take care.

I just found out that they guy I am
dating as HPV. We haven't had sex
yet. He has been devestated by this
for two years and has not had a
girlfriend during this time. I care
about him very much and although I have
questions and concerns, this doesn't
change the way that I feel about him.
I just thought that you would like to
know that there are people out there
who would be with someone with
HPV...keep your head up and keep
smiling.

You do not need to tell your friends
and family unless they are at risk of
getting the virus, otherwise it is a
personal virus, and only the people
who could be at risk need to know.
Hang in there

If I have a weak immune system, does
that mean I am more likely to have
recurrences? :( :( :(

i think the answer to the above
question is "yes." eat healthful food.
don't eat junk food. your body has too
work too hard to process that crap!
don't smoke. be moderate in drinking.
sleep well. if you make these changes,
your whole life should improve.
