About toilet seats......

This is in response to the thread where the guy said the couple had HPV warts and cervical dysplasia... In the book "Women at Risk: The HPV Epidemic and your Cervical Health", page 151..."There is some evidence that HPV can be transmitted through fomites - inanimate objects that have touched the virus. These include sex toys, tannings beds, and even toilet seats. The question hinges on the extent to which the virus can survive outside of its human host". Book is by Gregory S. Henderson, M.D., PhD and Batya Swift Yasgur, M.A., MSW. You can find this book at your local library.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I
really do think that it may be
transmitted through toilet seats.

Well, except that the more sexually
active you are, the higher your chances
are of getting it. So it can't be the
seats.

Statistically speaking that is... It
seems some people on this website got
it and they weren't having that much
sex - including me!!! I personally
don't think I got if from a toilet
seat, but you can have a sad sex life
like mine and get HPV. By the way all
my other STD results were negative...

I remember reading a few cases of
virgins getting it that had no sexual
encounters at all. I do think there
are other ways just not well
documented. This is one of the most
common disease/virus that nobody knows
anything about. It's quite
frustrating.

I hear you man. I've read those too.
So people on here...please discard the
MYTH that people who have more sex have
HPV because it's not true. That's not
the same as saying people who have had
more sex partners statistically are at
more risk, because statistically
speaking that's just making an obvious
statement - you know like saying if you
buy more lottery tickets you are more
likely to win...but do you?

All I know is after running the full
gamut of emotions, I'm still confused!
I've been married 25 years and faithful
the whole time. My wife has also been
faithful; I'm absolutely sure of this.
Neither of us have any warts and I'm
baffeled as to where we contracted it.

i've always had a bad habit of sitting
on public toilet seats
haphazardly...but i also have always
had haphazard sexual relations too
(tested neg for all the major
stuff...thank god this is all i have)

To the married guy in a happy
marriage: Maybe one of you just had it
to begin with. A lot of people do not
show symptoms so a perfectly healthy
looking person may have the virus.
Actually, I'd like to thank you for
sharing your experience. It sure makes
me feel better. I've heard that when
you count the unreported and
undiagnosed cases maybe 99% actually
have HPV.

9/12/2003 9:40:30 AM -
I mean I wish we all didn't have it of
course, but your solid marriage kind of
testifies to the fact that the virus
can lie dormant for years. Also, we
have all got to stop associating HPV
with loose sex, etc.

9/13/2003 11:41:19 AM -
Ditto to the comment directly above.
People automatically assume that HPV =
dirty loose sex. Hey well my sex life
wasnt' the cleanest and I've had a few
partners but for the amounts that
other people I know sleep around I'm
suprised they havent' caught
everythign out there yet.
