Testing for HPV

Excerpt from HPV101 "Other than that, however, doctors do not "test" for HPV. The reason for this is that HPV, being a skin disease, can infect an undetermined amount of skin in places that are difficult or impossible to test. So if they took a sample from one spot on you and it came up negative, who's to say you don't have HPV in a spot that wasn't tested? HPV doesn't show up in the blood, so there's no sure way to tell you you're positive or negative for it unless there are symptoms present." I've extracted this from HPV101 because people keep talking about HPV tests and seem to be misinformed. Bottomline: You can't be tested for HPV though HPV can show up in a routine test. So just because you're negative in one test doesn't mean you don't have HPV. Those of you who don't have warts - don't bother trying to find out whether you have it or not because you can't>

There is a test called hybrid test for
hpv, I'm not sure how it works, but I
know it is pretty accurate. Also very
expensive, that is why they don't test
all that often.

Bottom line. Do penile biopsies test
for HPV or show visible warts?

I wouldn't think so because a penile
biopsy is what was just explained
above. If you only take one area of
the skin it doesn't test for all areas.

Lets just say the piece of skin or
wart was tested by the hybrid test and
it came up positve for hpv. Now if you
take that same piece of skin or wart
and do a penile biopsy, would that
biopsy show the presence of hpv also?

Guys - the bottom line is a piece of
tissue CAN BE TESTED. Problem is just
because that piece of tissue is HPV-
does not mean the rest of you is.

had a wart biopsied and it came back
positive for g/warts (go figure),
having it typed for strain is another
matter entirely and my doctor said he
wouldn't order dna test for strain as
it was expensive and useless info for
a guy

I would guess that if you had a
suspicious piece of skin tested and it
came back negative then you should
proceed as if you don't have it...

You never know tho. Some people are
asymptomatic.

BTW a biopsy looking for HPV should
turn something up if the virus is
there... Wish I could get one. Then you
would know whether any of the vaccines
could help you. These docs act as if we
should just go ahead and shove it in
the next girl we see, worry free.
Fuckers.

I guess then a penile biopsy could
test that wart or suspiciuos skin for
hpv. Seeker, I got pretty much the
same comments from my docs. They all
say don't worry it's nothing or what I
have is too small to treat. Well I bet
if it was there penis, they would be
treating that sucker from the time
they saw something. They are worthless
bastards.

10/28/2003 2:41:08 PM - tjwndt
not worthless; indifferent to a virus
they can't cure, uneducated,
overworked, uncaring maybe, but anyone
that can write prescriptions for my
aldara is not worthless :-)

Well, the way the doctors are going
about this - small wonder that a lot of
people are spreading the virus, huh?
