You may or may not have the type of HPV that causes warts although if you see warts then I guess you know the answer about which one you have. If you keep sleeping with the same person that has it, it will go away eventually for both of you provided you both get treated but you both may still carry the virus. If you sleep with someone else you might give it to them even though you have treated yours.

See I don't understand. If you sleep with the same person wouldn't you just keep getting it?? I mean if it doesn't go away I would think that you can get treated then just pass it back to the person? Sorry for being so stupid on the sub. But see I didn't think I had the genital since it was on my cervex. Can you have both kinds??

you guys need to do some research, the virus itself can manifest itself in all kinds of ways depending on your immune system.
"hpv is like a box of chocolates..."
there are no clear cut answers.

Sleeping with someone who doesn't have it means you're probably going to give it to him/her - assuming this person doesn't have it. Remember the statistics. Most people have HPV but don't know it.

As for the cervical/genital thing. I've read threads on this site where people who had it on their cervix ended up with warts. But then again who's to say this person or you don't have other strains of HPV. The tests are not that reliable!

I am 22 years old and I was diagnosed with genital warts back in Feb. When I went for a papsmear in May I was diagnosed with cervical Dysplasia. You probably have two strains of the virus if you have warts and dysplasia. The warts probably just started showing up.

If you sleep wiht the same person who has it over and over you will pass it back and forth for a while but eventually your immunes system will catch up provided you both treat it. Your immune system is capable of providing antibodies it just takes time to weed out all the virus because it's in the skin rather than floating in your bloodstream.

Just for the record - doctors do not tell faithful partners to stop having sex if one is diagnosed with HPV. I wonder what this means?

Children get tons of colds and flus when they are young because their bodies havn't built up immunities to certain cold and flu viruses. Healthy adults on average get one to two colds a year because they have built up immunities to certain strains of viruses. HPV works the same way. You won't keep passing the virus back and forth because you have the virus in your body. When your body builds immunity to the virus you will no longer get the warts.

They call it a virus for a reason, because many viruses act the same way. We all still have those old flu bugs in us we just don't get sick as often because of our immune systems. Discounting HIV which attacks the immune system directly therefore you will never build and immunity.

Tracy, that seems mostly true although I've had the flu virus, got better cause my immune system built an immunity against it ALTHOUGH I probably don't have it in my body anymore otherwise everyone I came in contact with would still be getting the flu rather than the one or two that got it when I was actually sick. HPV may work the same way.

The reason why you don't give people around you the flu is because you have the antibodies inside of you, kind of like a flu shot. People who get flu shots don't give their friends the flu after, like that. HPV eventually goes away, I've talked to someone that is thirty + that had it when she was fifteen. She had them, got them treated and never thought about them again, and hasn't gotten another outbreak.

I agree that the warts will go away eventually when your body eventually fills up with the anti-bodies but I'm wondering....like when you have anti- bodies for the flu and no longer are sick anymore...is HPV the same way...you built up the anti-bodies like flu, virus disappears...can't pass it on anymore like the flu?? or what?? That's what I'm trying to find out.
