Females: skin irritation with Aldara

I have a lot of raw skin from using Aldara around my vagina. I have a lot of stinging when I urinate now and think I should go off of it for a few days. I have only been using it for about a week. The itching was bearable but now the stinging is awful. I tried a baby diaper rash cream to try to soothe it but it made it worse. Does anyone know how long it will take for my skin to heal, or when I should start going back to Aldara or should I hang in there and keep up with the treatments???

I'm a guy but I think I can help.
Women will have more sensitivity than
guys to Aldara but it's okay to go off
it for a a short while...few days or
week till it lessens up in whatever
area is irritated. My doctor said this
was fine although the irritation means
that it's working. She suggested a
calomyne(sp) based lotion for my areas
although I dont' know if that is
appropriate for females. But it worked
better than other stuff I tried.

he's right. back off then start up
again. amazing but his stuff works. I
had a wart and put aldara, within less
than a week it just disapeared.
Amazing.

Can you try using a hydrocortisone
ointment? My dr. told me for a
different skin problem to use ointments
rather than crems, because they are less
irritating

You can use hydrocortizone but not too
often as it will create problems of
it's own according to my doc, that's
why she recommended the calomyne based
products. But yes, you can use
hydrocortizone for a short while,
preferably one with a moisturizer built
in.

Thanks for your replies - I read
elsewhere that cortisone cream can
actually stimulate the virus?? I also
today tried Vitamin E (just squeezed
out of a capsule) and it didn't hurt
at all. I was just really looking for
something to protect the skin from
friction from my underwear...and also
the burning when I pee!! Seems like
the Vit. E is the best thing so far.

fyi... they sell vitamin e oil in the
vitamin aisle of stores

I have had a LOT of irritation w/
Aldara, waking up at night from the
itch! Hold off a week or so from using
it, and make sure you are not
spreading it around where it is not
needed...Although I found that even if
I was very careful & applied it with a
Q-tip only to the warts it spread
around and gave me red spots and
irritation. Good luck!

I sort of hate aldera for this reason
and have hit my limit with it. Its
worth the intense, but momentary pain
for me to go back to TCA...but the way
aldera works (evoking immune response)
is a great way to fight this...so its
up to you...how much can you stand,
you know?

On Aldara - I have no qualifications
whatsoever on this, but what if you
spread vaseline around the areas you
don't want it to touch, as a protective
barrier?

12/16/2003 1:46:20 PM -
To the above, yeah, I haven't tried it
but I'm almost positive it will work.
I used to use it on my legs to prevent
jelly-fish stings at the beach...work
there...should work here too as a
barrier.

I have the same problem. I have eased
off and than started again. As to the
painful urination--I know this sounds
gross but I pee into a tub of cold
water--it dilutes the urine

Want to stop waking up at night with
an itch? Use Vit. E capsules on your
off days.

I had the same problems when i first
started using aldara. A few
suggestions, dont use too much. Only
use a little bit on the actual warts,
dont spread it around. Also, use tea
tree oil on your off days to help
soothe the skin. Thirdly, hang in
there. It has really helped me when i
thought nothing else would

12/16/2003 10:16:15 PM -
I've been trying to wear it during the
day time when I can pop an ibuprofrin
to ease the itching.

Vitamin E oil (I got the kind from
capsules) has been a GODSEND!!!
Totally has eased the itching,
burning, irritation from clothes (and
the burning from urine). Definitely
recommend it - plus it supposedly
enhances immune function, so it
couldn't hurt!

To the person that suggested Vaseline,
I certainly would not recommend it for
such a sensitive area. Use Vitamin E or
Tea Tree Oil. I suffered terribly using
Aldara. My solutions:
1.use Aldara every second day,during
the day, saves being woken at night & I
don't even NOTICE itching during the day
2.Use Tea Tree Oil on non-Aldara days
3.Use Vitamin E/Sorbelene to soothe dry
skin after the Tea Tree Oil.
Use tiny amounts of Aldara & take a
break if u need :) Hope this helps!

12/17/2003 10:53:58 PM - Craig
DO NOT use tea tree oil unless you
want to itch more. It will dry your
skin and you'll itch so much you'll
look like a monkey.

Hmmm, it must be different for
different people as I use pure Tea Tree
Oil and have definitely never had a
problem with itching. The only problem
is that it does make the area
incredibly dry and thus the skin can
crack, making urination painful as the
skin is raw. I relieve this using
Vitamin E cream as I said above. Ive
never, however, suffered itching from
Tea Tree Oil, if anything, it relieved
the itching caused by the Aldara :)

vitamin E--brilliance, thanks guys =)

12/19/2003 8:49:51 PM -
I never had any problems with tea tree
oil- never dried the skin or anything.
it helped me with my pain and itching
from aldara... but maybe i should try
vitamin E from what people are saying..
thanks for the info
