I would continue with a gyn. They have the most knowledge about your reproductive health. Not to say a generalist can't help but the gyn is your best bet. If you don't like the one you have try a new gyn. I have a nurse practitioner treating me, and she works for an ob/gyn. It is far more important what the individual doc knows about the virus than what kind of doc they are. My old gyn misdiagnosed me and didn't do the culture swab she could have done.

A gyn or NP that works for a gyn is also more likely to know the lastest on HPV. My NP had just returned from a clincian's conference in California about HPV.

Do you prefer the NP to the doc? I find that NP's are just nicer. Can they prescribe things> I think I'm near done but I'd like to get some condolyx to use in case another little guy pops up.

Yes, I nurse practitioner has a bit more authority than a regular nurse, and can prescribe something. I had a good outcome with Aldara. If you have prescription coverage, ask for that, or ask for it if you can afford it out- of-pocket, it's PRICEY. It may very well be worth it though for you. It doesn't work for everyone, but what it does is actually help the body kill the virus, so a recurrence may be less likely, I don't think they know about that for sure yet.

(cont'd) So, if you like your clinician and feel comfortable, stick with her. I don't have much preference, like I said I think that it depends on how much the individual doc/NP knows versus what type of clinician they are.

...I'm just getting frusterated, this will be my second time switching (aka) looking for a third doc. I've kind of given up on aldera....

Are you the poster of this question? Just wondering...Yeah, many on this site anyway have also had a tough time with Aldara. How long have you been using it? It can take a while. Is your current doc not sympathetic, not willing to try other therapies? What is it exactly. You should def. be given other options for treatment. My roommie had hers frozen off and they never recurred. Aldara is not the answer for everyone.

Sarah- This started for me in April-I was going in for acid treatments-then I moved temporarily and so I started Aldera. It was working, but soooo painful...I was in europe all summer, when I came back to the states I moved...

the warts were totally looking great (as in being very gone) so i thought I'd shave to makes sure everything was clear. ooops-huge mistake, I had a huge outbreak in october. Since then I've been going to the doc for acid treatments. I don't know why-but he doesn't want to use the liquid nitro (For freezing)...I feel like a broken record asking him....

I'm not sure it's that he isn't doing everything he can. It can't hurt to see someone else, right? I HATE it when they tell us "It's no big deal," because I feel like I may as well have freakin' HIV, because no guys have accepted this HPV thing. In truth, you shouldn't worry, simply because that doesn't help things. And really, you may be wart-free soon. Remember, it seems to be an average of two years for people to get rid of HPV or significantly suppress it.

...thanks, that is good to remember. It is so frusterating. What are some things you are doing/thinking to keep your spirits up? I feel like I am at the end of my tether with this thing,...

I'm taking a multivitamin. My doc gave me some prenatal vitamins, so I will continue with that. I know it is really hard, all for something so seemingly benign! I have been much more mindful of what I eat. Eat plenty of veggies, and just a healthy diet in general. I feel pretty turned off to sex right now (not like I have a choice anyway) and I am rethinking what my future sex life will be like.

(cont'd) It's not the sex I miss, it is the desire for just physical closeness with someone that I am afraid I will be without. You are still a beautiful person, you were one of the unlucky 1% that develop warts. It sucks.

you kick ass, Sarah. What is with the prenatal vitimins? What are they supposed to do? I'm a vegetarian as it is-so I do eat healthy-since I discovered these I had been too depressed to work out-but I'm gettin gbak in the habit (it helps my mood if anything)I've read your posts and you are too awsome to "be alone"-this problem will probably just screen out the jerks that would have wasted your time anyway.

Oh my god, thanks! =) Prenatal vitamins are basically like regular vitamins, except with higher concentrations of most or all of the nutrients. Like, there'll be 300% Vit C or folic acid instead of 100%. I think my NP told me folic acid is esp. good at fighting the virus...but I could be remembering wrong. Good that you get your veggies already. I also try to work out as much as possible. Which still isn't much...Keep smilin, babe!

Tell her you're frustrated and want some results. Make her listen.
