I was at the STD clinic in PA yesterday. The nurse that I saw attended a conference on HPV this summer in Philadelphia. Yes there is a vaccine that is being developed, but the only people that will be able to get the vaccine will be girls from the age of 16 - 18. The vaccine is only going to protect against high risk HPV. I was hoping that I would be able to get the vaccine, I have high risk and was hoping that the vaccine would benefit me. The nurse explained to me that if you have had warts on your feet or hands the virus is still in your system but your immune system learns to handle the virus. If you had chicken pox your body builds up an immunity to it. So lets hope that our immune systems will learn how to handle the virus.

Well that sucks! They should make it available to all that need it.

There are two vaccines...one by GKS which will only target 16 & 18. One by Merck that will target 6, 11, 16, & 18. I have read that even if you have warts the vaccine will boost your antibodies enough to give you the edge and take care of them.

Poster above, where did you find that info about GSK & Merck hpv types? I was at my docs today & he was discussing the GSK vaccine with me & seemed to believe that once your hpv is typed the vaccine can be produced to fight that particular type, not just 16 & 18.

I saw it posted in www.hpvsupport.com There is a lot of information posted on these there. A lot of it states that with the Merck vaccine your body will produce 40 times the antibodies for the wart types, and while won't kick the virus from the body, it will stimulate the immune system enough that warts will never be a problem down there again.
