i need help in understanding..

i went overseas this summer. i fell in love (europe can do that to you) and had unprotected sex. i was a virgin before him and i havent slept with anyone else since. i had went in for a regular pap (1st ever at 21) and it came back abnormal mild celluar changes. i got pamphelt about hpv and an apointment on monday. its 4:40 am and i cant sleep. i dont know anything about this. do i have genial warts? and lets just say this isnt the strain for that... i cant sleep with anyone in 2 years before it cleans itself up? i dont know what to do... i already called the bastard and yelled my head off. he got tested, turns out there is no test for men and they laughed out of the clinic. i have filmy discarge, more every week. ive noticed no bumps, nothing. i had a yeast infection and cervicitis i treated with cream and antibiotics. could the abnormal pap be because of those? im so nervous, no one is going to be with me again.

oh and one more thing... could a guy have
hpv but not have any warts ever?

if you had an abnormal pap it means you
have the kind of hpv that is cervical...
you won't get warts from it because its
a whole different strain of the virus. i
would suggest getting checked out with
regular gyno visits. as far as not
having sex... you can but just remember
to be safe and use a condom so that you
will reduce your risk of getting
something worse!! you should feel lucky
that it was hpv instead of hIv!!

Most people (about 75% to 95%) will
get HPV at some point in their life.
95% of those who get it will never
know about it, so yes its very
possible (and more likely) that a guy
will have HPV and not have any signs.

can it be hpv that gives genital warts? or
does he need to have an outbreak to have
that strain?

11/12/2004 5:00:51 PM -
No, you can have the genital wart
strain and never get warts. It all
has to do with each person's
individual immune system. Some people
are more prone to warts than others.

first of all, an abnormal pap can mean
anything. if it came back ASCUS then
it could be caused by an infection, an
irritation or hpv. secondly, visible
warts CAN show up on the cervix but the
hpv that usually causes visible warts
is not the kind responsible for
cervical cancer. does that make
sense? likewise, the kind that causes
cervical cancer (high risk strains) can
also be located on your labia, but you
cant see it b/c it makes microcellular
changes.

cont fr above the reason they can
detect high risk strains on your cervix
is b/c they do a smear. unfortunately,
there is no "smear" for outside the
cervix so the high risk strain could
also be there. there is no
set "cervical strain" and GW strain,
meaning there is no strain that only
stays on the inside and there is no
strain that only stays on the outside.
you could have a low risk strain, the
kind that produce GW inside on your
cervix

all this just makes me want to die. i cant live
like this. i have no idea what my new pap is
going to look like... i want to die.

11/14/2004 11:02:25 PM -
i was just diagnosed and want to die
to but its not the best thing to
do.the virus is an emotional one not
to mention irritating and life
changing....dieing is the easy way
out...

11/18/2004 2:07:12 AM -
no reason to die over this. A vaccine
is coming out in a year that will
pretty much fix this for everyone out
there. Also the way it stands now,
almost everyone gets this, and it
usually goes away in 2 years. Nothing
to get worked up over.
