OPTIMISM

Hi, I am 21 years old and was just diagnosed a few weeks ago after i noticed a few small bumps. I went to a gyno and had them burned. The doctor is located near a college campus and said he sees this ALL the time and has been doing what he does for many many years. I asked him a few questions and he told me in his replies that this virus would not be in my body forever. He told me it would only be maybe 6 months. He told me after that time I don't need to tell anyone. He assured me that this was only a temporary problem that will go away on its own. So please be positive. I know I'm going to get replies of people saying "your doctor is wrong" but you most likely are not a doctor. You don't see and handle cases of this everyday. Please stop trying to bring other people down. No one needs advice about something like this that is only going to make them feel more hopeless.

your doctor is absolutely
correct.....good luck! you will be
fine in no time

1/19/2005 4:14:01 PM -
yes, did you ever ask him how often
people come in after they have warts?
That is usually a good indictator. I
believe people would tend to return to
the same doc when dealing with GW,
because they would already feel
comfortable with that doc, unless they
are just bad...best people to ask is
the ones that see it frequently!

1/19/2005 7:47:36 PM -
well, i'm not trying to bring ppl down
but if it cleared in six months and was
only a temp problem then there wouldnt
be anyone getting CANCER from it b/c it
would have cleared before it could
develop. drs telling patients they
shouldnt inform is WHY hpv keeps
getting spread so rapidly. b/c ppl
dont have symptoms so they think they
are cleared. you prob wont have warts
in 6 months, but i'm gonna laugh if you
have a recurrance 1 yr from now, it'll
show u the truth!

1/19/2005 7:56:49 PM -
this is off a gov website "Although
treatments can get rid of the warts,
none get rid of the virus. Because the
virus is still present in your body,
warts often come back after treatment."
"Unfortunately, many people who don't
have symptoms don't know that they can
spread the virus to an uninfected
partner."http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsh
eets/stdhpv.htm

1/19/2005 8:00:23 PM -
i also find it interesting that your
doctor would say six months and its
cleared when even the others who say
you can clear it say 2 yrs, not 6
months. sounds like dr is lying to
keep college kids coming to him for
treatment.

A lot of factor go into getting
cancer..not just HPV alone. And if the
above poster had any brains they would
know this. HPV "is not in the body"
either. It is localized in the skin.
To the original poster....they wont be
back

1/19/2005 11:28:29 PM -
So the poster that said "if it cleared
in 6 months then nobody would get
cancer" Well, some people fight off
the flu some people die from it. You
are talking as if the virus is the only
variable here. Your own immune system
is the thing that is going to determine
how your body handles it. You assume
everybody has the same immune system
and diet and state of health, and
therefore would all react the same to
hpv.

1/19/2005 11:30:28 PM -
....also how in the world do you come
to the conclusion that drs are the
resaon for hpv spreading so rapidly. I
would like to see the literature on
that study...Oh I see you conducted
your own study! Silly me

1/20/2005 4:01:10 AM -
b/c drs tell patients it clears and
tell them NOT to inform partners about
it,so misinformed ppl keep spreading
it, and they are misinformed by the
drs. also, if your immune system was
THAT great, you wouldn't ever get warts
b/c your immune system would keep them
from ever developing. and the quote
that the virus is still in the body
comes off the national institute of
allergy and infectious diseases, a
branch of the US dept of health and
human services.

1/20/2005 4:12:16 AM -
oh yeah, and ALOT of factors dont go
into getting cancer, only a few. it
still doesnt negate the fact that if
they DIDNT have the virus, or it had
cleared in 6 months like
it "apparently" does, they never would
have gotten cancer. thats like saying
anyone dies from the flu. no, you have
to actually CATCH the virus to die from
it. also, immune function is the main
factor in developing cancer. many med
researchers believe that many ppl go
undiagnosed as having...

1/20/2005 4:17:01 AM - cont from above
a primary immune disorder (meaning they
were born with it) b/c most ppl dont
realize the signs for immune
disorders. for ex. the most common is
selective IgA deficiency. one in 600
ppl have it, meaning roughly 50 million
americans suffer from this and many
dont know it b/c they dont show extreme
immune problems. they usu. have
asthma, sinus problems, or frequent
infections of mucous membranes, but
many dont have abnormal # of
infections, so they go undiagnosed.

1/20/2005 4:20:50 AM - cont from above
since so many ppl suffer from immune
disorders, maybe ppl shouldnt be so lax
about the fact that cancer CAN develop.
you might feel diff if it was someone
you loved and you watched them deal w/
cancer CAUSED by hpv. i think ppl
should be informed of ALL possibilities
since chances are there are at least a
few ppl on this board with undiagnosed
immune disorders. they have a right to
know the potential for cancer b-4 they
expose themselves to this virus.

1/20/2005 9:46:41 AM -
I have said that before about immune
disorders....not sure where you are
going with your argument...seems all
over the place

1/20/2005 9:48:46 AM -
how many number of doctors have been
misinforming people...DO you think it
might be people's sexual behavior and
their lack of moral values and
ethics...and NOT the fault of
doctors. You still would have to
prove that people acted on information
given from their doctor...doubt you
have that kind of information

1/20/2005 10:09:21 AM -
People only die of cervical cancer if
they have never had a pap smear. If
those women have never had a pap than
it is safe to assume they have
probably NEVER seen a regular doctor
for other check-up and so on. With
that being said they could have a ton
of other health issues along with HPV.
My immune system was fine when I
caught this..it has to do with the
amount of exposure...Mod to severe
dysplasia has a higher concentration
of virus than mild dysplasia.

1/20/2005 11:32:03 AM -
viral load, immune system response,
autoimmune disorders, age, circulating
antibodies (which would play a role in
restricting the disemmination of the
virus), hormones, temperature, and
phagocytes....these all play a role in
how the virus is handled (granted some
more than others)...and how well the
virus is handle could influence the
development of cancer

1/25/2005 6:20:40 PM -
i only have a few words of wisdom for
you, i caught hpv 5 yrs ago from a
cheating b/f and it took until two
weeks ago for this to show up,
although last year i found out and had
to have surgery due to dysplasia, but
sorry it never goes away, you may not
always have outbreaks, but it lays
dormant sweetie

1/25/2005 6:40:09 PM -
thanks above poster

1/30/2005 3:34:56 PM -
so you havent had sex in 5 years ? i
fi nd that hard to believe

1/30/2005 9:18:05 PM -
whats so hard to believe about that?
sex isnt everything ya know. there are
plenty more important things in life
than something as fucking stupid as sex.

2/1/2005 9:26:26 AM -
I feel so bad about your experience,
but your extrapolating your one
experience and stating that this is
how it works. I don't think that is
true, it has just as much to do with
your own body than it does hpv.
People want hope and it is not crazy
to say they will never have to deal
with this again
