my experience

I found out I had hpv when I was 22. I was traumatized and I had a doctor at the time who said it was a permanent thing. My pap smear was abnormal for several years (while I was still with my boyfriend). Eventually we broke up. I then had a different boyfriend and still had abnormal paps. I am now 28 and have not had sex for 3 years (yeah I know that sucks), but my pap smears are now normal. So I think I may be leaning toward the fact that the body does eradicate the virus. My current ob/gyn explained it was previously thought that it did stay in the body...but now it is thought that your body actually does get rid of it and "recurrences" of the virus are actually re-infections since there are so many strains and it is so common. So who really knows. I guess they just better keep doing research.
