Cervical Dysplasia- - (4 ) comments.

I was hesitant to contribute anything to this website when I was first diagnosed with cervical dysplasia in May of 2006. Partly because I was un-informed and partly because I was scared. My dysplasia was caused from the HPV virus and I was in shock because I thought I had been careful. That was until I read and read all the information my brain could handle to better understand this virus. It is known that 80% of people will have HPV at one point in their life whether they know it or not. So YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

I was diagnosed like I said in May of 2006. I had an abnormal pap was called into have a follow up. My follow up also showed cervical dysplasia. LGSIL. Low Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion. Those three words were the scariest because I had no idea what they meant. I was immediately sent off for a colposcopy. Again not having any idea what to expect. The colpo was similar to a pap just more in depth and a little more painful. I had four biopsies taken and they all showed the same thing. LGSIL. During the time I was waiting for my test results to come back I was researching the different options I had. I was only 20 at the time and had read many things about the LEEP procedure, freezing, burning and the other procedures out there. I decided that I was going to take the chance and wait it out. My doctor also agreed that it would be okay to wait and go for a follow-up pap in 6 months. It is known that most HPV infections clear within two years of diagnosis. I went for my follow-up pap in January of 2007 and it came back ASCUS! Finally there was improvement. I had read that Vitamin C and Garlic were helpful in boosting your immune system, thus boosting your cervix to repair the abnormal cells. I took those two supplements on and off for the 6 months inbetween my colpo and the pap that came back ASCUS. Again it was time for another pap, I waited 10 months instead of the 6 months I was supposed to because I moved. I went in last week for my pap and I got my results back today and I am cleared. There were no abnormal cells detected and I am fine. I will go back to yearly paps and I will continue to take my Vitamin C and Garlic! I also know that if you are on birth control, especially the pill it is a good idea to take a folic acid supplement because birth control lowers your folic acid level. The easiest way to get all of the supplements recommended is to take something like Centrum Protegra.
