A college student's experience with HPV/genital warts 2- - (10 ) comments.

...continued from previous post....

With my spirits raied, I began self treating with the ACV for as many of the warts as I could tolerate, and it seemed to help, particularly the ones that were more outer and on my clitoris. We also realized that to make sex less painful, lube was EXTREMELY helpful. I personally recommend Astroglide.

After about a month, I was looking in my mirror and noticed that the very large patch of warts on my vulva actually looked better!!! There seemed to be more on the other side thatn before, but the really bad area seeemed to be going away. I also started noticing more warts falling off on their own, without me doing anything.

I left my warts alone then, and it is now almost exactly 6 months since I believe I first came into contact with HPV and contracted genital warts, and I am wart free. I am still very concerned as HPV has other connections with cervical cancer and things like that...but I know I will always be closely watched by the doctor for it.

I am so relieved now that I no longer have physical symptoms. I feel so much more normal and I am mentally much more secure with myself. I realize that it still leads a long road ahead. If I am ever in a new relationship with someone, it will certainly be an issue. I know the warts can come back at any time too. But at least if they do, I will recognize them and take care of them ASAP.

Having HPV has changed my view of a lot of things. When I hear songs on the radio with lyrics like "girl you look good in the club I want to get with you"...all I can think about is that you never know if that girl/guy has HPV! Sometimes if I am people watching I think in my head that maybe some of those people have HPV too, and I wonder if they would think that I do. I'm much more conscious about STDs and encourage everyone to be very careful. I made the mistake, unfortunately, but I've certainly learned of it and I hope others will learn from my experience. And I also hope that others who already have HPV, or who are in the same shoes I was in 6 months ago, know that it is more common than most people realize and although it can be very problematic, it can also come nad go as if it wasn't there and you can have a normal life and still enjoy sex and be happy. I had many times where I wish I had someone to talk to, someone who knew what I was going through. It was more mental than anything else, but now I can reflect on that and I genuinely hope I have helped at least one other person out there who is scared, upset, angry or confused. There is no use in crying over it...once it has happened, it is there for good. Treat it respobsibly and maturely and you will be okay.

Thank you for sharing. It was nice
hearing from someone else intelligent
and well spoken who was just as upset as
i am currently, and knowing that you get
through it and it will get better helps
a lot.

I agree. Growing up with a background
in biology, and learning about viruses
with all your classmates, knowing you
have it- was weird. It has showed up
for me the 3rd time in 5 yrs. I have
delt with the problem better each time,
but it is still mentally draining. Very
supportive boyfriend though, which
definately helps. This will NOT get in
the way of a meaningful relationship
for the most part. The last boyfriend
was also supportive. Thanks for the
story.

can you explain what you mean by skin tags.

6/15/2009 8:54:36 PM -
they were very small...like little
columns of skin (to begin with, before
it got worse). a skin tag is like a
small growth of just regular skin. so
they sort of looked like that

So genital warts will NEVER go away?

7/28/2009 6:24:56 PM -
the virus itself will always be
present...that is my understanding.
the warts themselves may come and go
